BooksAuto follows the formulas CRA publishes for payroll deductions (T4127) — CPP, second CPP (CPP2), EI, and federal and provincial income tax, including the bonus method and year-to-date maximums. Tax tables are updated each January and July. We also recommend checking a few cheques against CRA's online calculator (PDOC) when you start.

Payroll works for every province and territory except Quebec, with CRA tax tables back to 2021; overtime on the schedule follows each province's employment standards (or the Canada Labour Code). Quebec payroll is on the roadmap.

You pay per company and choose its modules. Payroll is sized by employees: $10 (up to 10), $25 (up to 20) or $45 (no limit) a month. Bookkeeping is $10 a month (coming soon). Payroll and Bookkeeping are 50% off for your first year. Scheduling is $15, $29.99 or $69.99 a month by staff count. For each company choose Online, Windows app (same price) or both, synced (+$5/month).

Yes. A business can use BooksAuto Scheduling without our payroll: build the schedule, let staff clock in on a tablet or their phone, approve time sheets — then export the approved hours (Excel/CSV or PDF) for whoever runs your payroll, or share them with your accountant for free. If your accountant uses BooksAuto, the approved hours go straight into their pay runs.

Yes — approved accounting and bookkeeping firms pay $3 Payroll + $3 Bookkeeping per client per month, any number of employees (Online + Windows $5 more; Scheduling at its regular price). Apply on the "For accounting firms" page with your business licence; once we approve it, we email you a link to create your account and every client you add gets the price automatically. A new client's first bill covers its first 3 months, then it's monthly. No other discount applies on top.

One. The free trial includes one company — online, in the Windows app, or both together. To add a second company you choose a plan and pay for both companies; the trial then ends and everything keeps working.

Your whole account has one billing day. When you add a company part-way through the month, you pay only for the days until your billing day, so every company is then billed together in one charge. Yearly companies (12 months) renew together once a year on the same billing day.

Any time, from the Subscription page — online or in the Windows app. Adding a module or moving to a bigger package is charged now for the days left in the period. Moving down starts on your next billing date (no credit for the current period).

Cancel any company — or your whole account — yourself on the Subscription page and you get a reference number by email. Monthly: the current month is charged in full, there is no credit, and the company works until the end of that month. Yearly: we keep the months used (at the monthly price) plus a 3-month cancellation fee, and refund the rest to the card you paid with. After a plan ends the company stays read-only — nothing is deleted. See the Recurring Payment Agreement.

Online, in your encrypted BooksAuto workspace with nightly backups — or, with the Windows app, in encrypted company files on your own computer. You can move a company between the two. The schedule, time clock and staff app always run online, so staff can clock in from anywhere.

Everything works for 10 days, except exporting files (CRA and ROE Web files, bank files) — and PDFs carry a “TRIAL” mark. After the trial, your trial company is read-only until you choose a plan for it. Nothing is deleted.

It works offline. Each time it starts it first syncs with booksauto.online (and installs any update), then keeps checking for the internet; while you're offline it shows which companies aren't synchronised yet, and catches up automatically when you're back online.

Any modern browser for the online edition, a Windows 10 or 11 computer (64-bit) for the Windows app, and an Android tablet or any phone for the time clock and staff app. Printing cheques needs a laser printer and cheque stock from your bank or supplier.

Each business you work for is one company. For each one you choose its modules — Payroll, Scheduling, Bookkeeping, any mix — and where it's used (online, Windows or both). Payroll depends on its active employees: EMP10 up to 10, EMP20 up to 20, EMPMAX unlimited. Scheduling depends on the staff on the schedule.
